Welcome to JOY RIOT! (“JOY RIOT!,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a contract between you and JOY RIOT INC., a Delaware corporation (“JOY RIOT!,” “we,” “us,” “our”). These Terms govern your access to and use of our website located at wearejoyriot.com (the “Site”) and any content, features, products, and services we make available through the Site (collectively, the “Services”). Our store is hosted on Shopify.
By accessing or using the Site, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy (and any other policies referenced here).

2. ELIGIBILITY
The Site and related services (collectively, the “Services”) are intended for users who are at least 13 years old.
If you are 13-17, you may use the Site only with the involvement and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms. If you are a parent or legal guardian and you allow a minor to use the Services, you are responsible for the minor’s activity on the Services and for ensuring the minor complies with these Terms.
If you access or use the Services on behalf of another person or an organization, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to accept these Terms on their behalf. In that case, “you” and “your” refer to both you and that person or organization, and you (and the person or organization) are responsible for compliance with these Terms.
We may refuse service, suspend access, cancel orders, or terminate accounts if we reasonably believe you are not eligible to use the Services or if the Services are being used in violation of these Terms.
3. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS
We may update these Terms at any time. The “Last Updated” date shows when changes were posted. We’re always evolving and these Terms may evolve too. We may occasionally revise them and will provide notice in a reasonable manner (for example: through an email). Updated Terms are effective immediately upon posting, unless we note a different effective date. If you continue using the Site after changes are effective, you accept the updated Terms.
4. ACCOUNTS
You may need an account to use certain Services. You agree to provide accurate information and keep it updated. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity under your account.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we reasonably believe are fraudulent, abusive, or harmful to our interests or other customers.
5. PRODUCTS, CONTENT, AND IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS
We currently sell fragrance and may expand into beauty, personal care, and cosmetic products.
JOY RIOT! products are intended for personal, cosmetic use only.
The information on our Site is for general informational and educational purposes. Any product testimonials we may share on our Site or social media do not serve as any guarantee about the effectiveness of our products as it relates to your personal use.
We do not give medical advice. Any content on the Site – including descriptions, FAQs, emails, social content, reviews, or blog posts – is provided for general informational purposes only and is not medical, psychological, or therapeutic advice.
We do not make medical claims. Our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, medical, or mental health condition. Individual experiences with fragrance (including mood or sensory experiences) vary.
The JOY! Fund. We may allocate 1% of eligible sales revenue to The JOY! Fund, a JOY RIOT! initiative intended to support mental health access (including helping customers access therapy resources). We are currently working toward establishing The JOY! Fund as a separate charitable organization (or partnering with one). Unless we expressly state otherwise in writing, purchases are not tax-deductible as charitable donations. We may update, suspend, or discontinue The JOY! Fund (including the percentage, eligibility rules, timing, and administration) at any time via our discretion, and we will update our Site if we do.
Product information. We try to display product descriptions, imagery, and pricing accurately, but we do not guarantee that all content is error-free, complete, or current. Colors and appearance may vary by device. We reserve the right to correct any errors, inaccuracies or omissions, and to change or update information if any information on the Site is inaccurate at any time without prior notice (including after you have submitted your order). All descriptions of products, including pricing, are subject to change at any time without notice, at our sole discretion.
Product Availability. We reserve the right to limit the quantities of any products or Services that we offer. We reserve the right to discontinue any product at any time.
Personal use only. Products are intended for personal use, not resale. We may limit or cancel orders we believe are placed for resale or distribution.
Skin sensitivity / allergens / patch test. Always review ingredient information and warnings. Patch test before use, discontinue use if irritation occurs, and seek medical advice if needed. Our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. If you are uncertain about possible sensitivity, always do a patch test before use or consult your healthcare professional. Everyone has different health conditions that may cause various reactions.
6. ORDERS, PRICING, PAYMENT
Order acceptance. Your order is an offer to buy. We may accept by charging your payment method and/or shipping your order. We may refuse or cancel any order at any time for reasons including suspected fraud, inventory limits, pricing errors, or violation of these Terms.
Payment. Payment will be processed upon purchasing products from our Site. All information that you provide in connection with a purchase, transaction, or other monetary transaction interaction with the Services must be accurate, complete, and current.
Pricing. Pricing for our products may vary at the sole discretion of JOY RIOT!.
Pricing errors. If a product is listed at an incorrect price, we may cancel the order or contact you for instructions.
Payment methods. We may accept payment methods including PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Klarna (availability may vary). By submitting payment, you represent that you are authorized to use the payment method.
Sales tax. We collect sales tax where required.
Klarna. If you choose Klarna or another buy-now-pay-later option, your purchase may also be subject to the provider’s terms and privacy policy, and you agree to comply with them.
Pay What You Want (PWYW). For certain Products or promotions, we may allow you to choose what you pay, subject to a stated minimum price (the “Minimum”). The price you choose (as long as it meets or exceeds the Minimum), plus any applicable taxes and shipping, will be your final purchase price at checkout. You are responsible for reviewing and confirming the final total before submitting your order. PWYW pricing may be available only for a limited time, may be modified or ended at any time, and may not be combined with other discounts unless we state otherwise. We do not provide retroactive price adjustments or refunds based on the price you chose. If the amount entered is below the Minimum, the Site will not allow checkout (or will automatically adjust the price to the Minimum).
7. PREORDERS, WAITLISTS, AND SHIPPING DATE CHANGES
We may offer products as preorders or via waitlists.
Charge timing. For preorders, we charge your payment method at the time you place the preorder, unless we clearly state otherwise.
Estimated ship dates. Any ship date or availability estimate is just that – an estimate – and may change.
If your preorder is delayed. If your preorder hasn’t been fulfilled yet, you may cancel at any time before fulfillment for a refund to the original payment method (subject to any nonrefundable fees that cannot legally be returned).
Partial shipments. We may ship items separately. If we ship in parts, you agree we may do so without requiring additional shipping charges unless we clearly state otherwise.
8. SHIPPING (U.S. & INTERNATIONAL) + DDU / DUTIES & TAXES
We ship to the U.S. and may ship internationally.
Delivered Duties Unpaid (DDU). If your order ships outside the U.S., you are responsible for all import duties, taxes (including VAT), customs fees, brokerage fees, and other charges assessed by your country. We do not collect these at checkout.
Refused or unclaimed packages. If you refuse delivery, fail to pay required import fees, or fail to claim a package, that does not automatically trigger a refund. If the package is returned to us (if return is possible), we may issue a refund minus any shipping charges, return shipping costs, duties/taxes we incur, and handling fees to the extent permitted by law.
Risk of loss. Title and risk of loss pass to you when the package is handed to the carrier (unless your jurisdiction requires otherwise).
9. RETURNS & REFUNDS POLICY
If you try our products and they don’t twirl you into a whirlwind of SHEER DELIGHT, you can return them – yes, even opened – subject to the rules below.
9.1 Return window
You must send your return package within 14 days of delivery (based on carrier tracking). Returns started after this window may be refused.

9.3 Return shipping
- Original shipping fees are non-refundable.
- We do not provide prepaid return labels. You are responsible for return shipping costs.
9.4 What’s refundable
If your return is received and accepted by us, we will refund the product price paid (minus any discounts applied at purchase, where applicable), and excluding original shipping. We reserve the right to refuse returns that don't comply with this policy or show evidence of unusual use or resale.
9.5 Processing time
Once your return is delivered to us, please allow 5-7 business days to process. We will email you when processing is complete. Your bank/card issuer may take 3-5 additional business days (or longer) to post the refund.
9.6 Refund method
Refunds are issued to the original payment method used at checkout.
- We do not issue refund checks.
- If a refund to the original payment method is not possible, we may issue store credit instead.
9.7 “Gift it forward” option (optional, non-binding)
You always have the right to request a refund under this return policy. That said, we also love a gift-it-forward moment. Returning fragrance always means it can’t be resold for health and safety reasons. Gifting it forward lets the scent live on. (This is an encouragement, not a requirement.)
9.8 Retail partner purchases
If you purchased JOY RIOT! products through a retailer, their return policy applies.
9.9 Discovery Sets
Discovery Sets are returnable under this return policy unless we clearly state otherwise at time of purchase.
10. DAMAGED, DEFECTIVE, OR WRONG ITEMS
If your order arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, contact us at hey@wearejoyriot.com within 72 hours of delivery and include:
- your order number, and
- photo proof of the issue and packaging.
If verified, we may offer (at our discretion):
- a replacement of the same item (if available), or
- a refund to the original payment method.
11. PROMOTIONS & DISCOUNTS
Promo codes and promotions may have restrictions, may be time-limited, and may be modified or ended at any time. Unless stated otherwise, promotions cannot be applied retroactively.
12. USER CONTENT, REVIEWS, PHOTOS, AND “TAG US” PERMISSION
You may be able to submit reviews, comments, photos, videos, or other content (“User Content”) to us or through the Site, or if you publicly tag us (e.g., using @wearejoyriot or brand hashtags).
Your responsibility. You are responsible for your User Content and you represent and warrant:
- you own the User Content or have all rights needed to grant this license;
- any person appearing in the User Content has given you permission to grant these rights (and if required, you have written releases);
- the User Content does not infringe anyone’s rights (copyright, trademark, privacy/publicity, etc.);
- the User Content is not illegal, defamatory, or deceptive;
- if you describe your experience with a product, your statements reflect your genuine opinion and real experience.
- it is not unlawful, deceptive, hateful, harassing, obscene, or otherwise objectionable.
Our rights to use User Content. If you submit User Content to us or through the Site, or if you publicly tag us (e.g., using @wearejoyriot or brand hashtags) and we request/receive your “yes,” you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, fully paid, perpetual, irrevocable, transferable, sublicensable license to use, reproduce, publish, display, perform, distribute, edit, adapt, translate, and create derivative works from that content in any media for marketing, advertising, and business purposes – including using your handle, name, likeness, or captions as associated with the content, unless prohibited by law.
Age note: You confirm you are at least 18 or the age of legal majority where you live. If you are not, do not submit User Content for our use.
Truth in Advertising. If your User Content could be considered an endorsement and you received anything of value from us (free product, discount, paid partnership, affiliate link, etc.), you agree to clearly disclose that relationship (example: “#ad” / “gifted” / “partner” / “affiliate”).
No payment required. You understand you are not entitled to compensation for our use of the UGC unless we separately agree to it in writing.
Content removal requests. We can’t promise we’ll remove User Content from everywhere it appears (especially where it’s been shared, syndicated, or printed), but you can request removal by emailing hey@wearejoyriot.com with:
- a link/screenshot of the User Content and where it’s being used, and
- the handle/email you used when you granted permission.
We’ll make reasonable efforts to stop future use and remove it from channels we control where feasible.
Our rights (and our discretion). We may choose not to use your UGC, or to stop using it at any time. We may also remove or refuse UGC for any reason.
Release of claims. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release and agree not to hold JOY RIOT! (and our officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, affiliates, and service providers) liable for any claims arising out of our authorized use of the UGC, including claims related to rights of publicity, privacy, or moral rights (to the extent waivable).
Removal. We may remove or refuse User Content at any time.
13. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
The Site and all content provided by us (text, images, graphics, logos, designs, product names, written copy, and software) are owned by or licensed to JOY RIOT! and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not use our content or trademarks without our prior written consent except as permitted by law. We grant you a non-transferable, non-exclusive, right to access and use the Services for your personal use.
14. PROHIBITED USES
You agree not to:
- violate laws or regulations;
- infringe intellectual property;
- scrape, crawl, reverse engineer, interfere with security, or use bots;
- transmit malware;
- attempt unauthorized access;
- misuse promotions, returns, or chargebacks;
- harass or abuse others;
- submit false or misleading information.
15. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES & LINKS
The Site may include third-party tools and links (e.g., payment providers, analytics, social platforms, TikTok Shop). These links are provided as a courtesy to users. We don’t control third-party services and aren’t responsible for them. If you decide to leave the Site and access any third-party sites, you do so at your own risk, and you should be aware that our terms and policies no longer govern. Your use of third-party services may be subject to their terms and policies.
16. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SITE, SERVICES, AND PRODUCTS ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so some of the above may not apply to you.
17. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, JOY RIOT! AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOST PROFITS/REVENUE, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SITE OR PRODUCTS.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SITE, SERVICES, OR PRODUCTS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) $50 OR (B) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US FOR THE PRODUCT(S) GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM.
Some jurisdictions do not allow limitations of liability, so some of the above may not apply to you.
18. INDEMNIFICATION
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless JOY RIOT! and its affiliates and service providers from claims arising out of your misuse of the Site, violation of these Terms, your User Content, violation of laws, or infringement of third-party rights.
19. STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS (1 YEAR)
To the extent permitted by law, any claim arising out of or relating to the Site, Services, or these Terms must be filed within one (1) year after the claim arose, or it is permanently barred.
20. DISPUTE RESOLUTION, ARBITRATION, & CLASS ACTION WAIVER
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. THIS AFFECTS YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS.
20.1 Mandatory arbitration
Except for the exceptions below, any dispute or claim arising out of or relating to these Terms, the Site, Services, or Products will be resolved by binding individual arbitration, not in court.
20.2 Exceptions
Either party may:
- bring claims in small claims court if eligible; and/or
- seek injunctive or equitable relief in court for actual or threatened infringement or misuse of intellectual property rights.
20.3 Arbitration rules and provider
Arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules (or similar rules in effect). If AAA is unavailable, the parties will agree to an alternative provider.
20.4 Location / format
Arbitration will take place in Los Angeles County, California, unless the parties agree otherwise, and may be conducted by phone/video/written submissions where permitted by the rules.
20.5 No class actions
YOU AND JOY RIOT! AGREE THAT DISPUTES WILL BE BROUGHT ONLY IN AN INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY AND NOT AS A CLASS, COLLECTIVE, CONSOLIDATED, OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. The arbitrator cannot consolidate claims or preside over any form of class proceeding.
20.6 Starting arbitration (notice requirement)
Before initiating arbitration, you must send a written notice describing the dispute and relief sought to: [Address Coming Soon], Attn: Legal (or the address posted on the Site). We will do the same for claims against you. The parties agree to try in good faith to resolve the dispute within 30 days after notice before filing arbitration.
20.7 Fees
Payment of filing, administration, and arbitrator fees will be governed by AAA rules.
20.8 Jury trial waiver
If a claim proceeds in court (where permitted), you and JOY RIOT! each waive any right to a jury trial to the fullest extent permitted by law.
21. GOVERNING LAW & VENUE
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except that the Federal Arbitration Act (FAA) governs arbitration.
For disputes permitted in court (e.g., small claims or IP injunction), you agree to venue in state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
22. TERMINATION
We may suspend or terminate access to the Site or Services at any time. Sections intended to survive (including disclaimers, limitations of liability, arbitration, and IP) will survive termination.
23. MISCELLANEOUS
Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
No waiver. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, sale, or reorganization.
Entire agreement. These Terms and policies referenced on the Site are the entire agreement between you and JOY RIOT! regarding the Services.
